Former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Hon. O.B. Amoah has advised the Government to use Ghana’s World Cup funds to develop the country’s grassroots football and other sports.
According to him,he is yet to witness the benefits from Ghana’s participation at 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
“In 2006, the GFA used part of the World cup money to buy cars for all the Regional Football Association Chairmen which has been beneficial in their quest to discharge their day to day running of the activities as far football is concerned”, he told Asempa Sports
He says financial gains from participating in the last two World Cup tournaments should be used to develop grassroots football and other sports rather than putting them in the government’s coffers.
“ I have some questions about government’s use of the World Cup funds received from FIFA through the Ghana Football Association.”
The MP for Aburi-Nsawam urged the sports ministry to pressurize the government to invest more into sports by using the World Cup funds in growing sports in the country
Ghana made their debut appearance at the World Cup in 2006 and came close to achieving a semi-final berth at the South Africa 2010 but failed to get out of the group stage in the 2014 edition.
