Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodioo Constituency have been urged to bury their differences and unite to ensure that the party retained the seat in the December general elections. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday, the constituency chairman, Mr. Daniel Nii Okai, said there was the need for unity now that the delegates conference to select a parliamentary candidate for the December general election had been concluded. He stated that normally, during such periods differences occurred with members supporting the various contestants to get the nod to stand for the elections on the ticket of the party. Mr. Okai pointed out that such contests among democrats should end with the selection of the parliamentary candidate adding; “It should not be acrimonious to the extent that it will create or lead to division within the same party”. “As democrats who love their party we should understand that in any contest there is always one winner and all true members of the NDC should bury their hatchets and unite to ensure victory,” Mr. Okai stated. He called on the contestants who lost the primary to advise and educate their supporters to put the past behind them and forge ahead behind the parliamentary candidate for the “battle ahead” to enable the party to retain the seat and win the Presidential election to enable Professor John Evans Atta Mills to form the next government. The constituency chairman congratulated the contestants for their maturity in accepting the results of the primary and appealed to them to join hands with the executives to form a strong unified campaign team to mobilize members and win over floating voters to ensure a resounding victory for the NDC in the Parliamentary and Presidential elections. Mr Jonathan Tackie Komme, MP for the area last Sunday defeated two other contestants at the Delegates Conference in Accra to stand as the candidate of the NDC. The MP polled 115 votes while his closest contestant Mr. Walid Laryea, a former constituency youth organiser had 97 with Mr. Benjamin Ayikuma Okai, a former constituency vice chairman getting 21 votes.
