Barely three days after armed robbers attacked and shot the Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani, another incident of armed robbery took place late Sunday.
Armed robbers attacked galamsey operators at Manwe in the Wa East District, killed one and injured five others.
The deceased, whose name was only given as Joseph is currently at the Wa Hospital morgue whilst the injured are also on admission there.
Leader of the illegal miners Suley Abdulai told Joy News correspondent Rafiq Salam, they were prospecting for gold when the robbers fired gun shots into them killing one of his colleagues instantly.
Sulley recalled, that was not the first time the robbers attacked them as they attacked them some time ago while they were on their way to town with their goodies and took away three motorbikes belonging to them as well as their mobile phones.
Public Relations Officer for the Wa Police ASP Edmund Nyamekye confirmed the incident and said investigations had been initiated to bring the perpetrators to book.
In a related development, victims of last Friday’s armed robbery attack at Kuala in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region have appealed to the security agencies to intensify patrols on the road.
Regional Minister Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani sustained gun shot wounds and had to be rushed to Accra for treatment. He is still left with one bullet in his body, and he might live with that for the rest of his life even though doctors had removed all but one of the pellets from his body.
According to them, the road there is in deplorable condition and more importantly the communities lying on that stretch of road are far apart from each other, which has given opportunity to the bandits to ply their trade there.
