One person has died and another was seriously injured after they were involved in a gory accident on the Accra-Tema motorway on Saturday morning.
According to Tema Region officers of the Ghana National Fire Service, an empty DAF fuel tanker was heading towards Tema from Accra when it veered off the road.
It crushed into a gutter in the median of the motorway with the empty bulk falling on its side.
The impact left the driver lifeless leaving one other passenger onboard trapped.
This created a gridlock on the motorway as drivers and commuters tried to find alternative routes to their various destinations.

Explaining what happened, the Fire Service said, "The trapped casualty was extricated by Fire officers and was transported to Tema General Hospital by personnel of the Ghana Police Service.
"A passerby was hit by a passing vehicle in the process and was sent to hospital by the Ambulance team at the scene at the time.
"The lifeless body was extricated and handed over to personnel of the police," the officer said.

Narrating what happened, the District Commander for the Motorway Fire station of the Ghana National Fire Service, DO II Richmond Vanderpuye, said it received a running call from a police inspector Albert Amofa Adade of the Ghana Police Service reporting an accident on the Accra to Tema stretch of the motorway near the Ashaiman under bridge at 3:55 am.
"The team of officers on duty led by Station Officer Grade II Samuel Tetteh Nartey was dispatched to the scene at 0356hrs.
"On arrival at the accident scene at 4 am, they found that the accident involved an empty DAF fuel tanker with registration number GN 2139 – 17.
"The head compartment of the DAF fuel tanker suffered total damage. The cause of the accident is not readily known."
