Residents of communities within the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly say they have had enough of plying deplorable roads.
The major road network connecting the capital of the municipality, Agona Nkwanta to the Western Region capital, Takoradi, has been in bad shape for many years.
As such, the residents want government to intervene and do the needful.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Ina-Thalia Quansah, commuters explained that they often have to alight and walk the rest of their journey due to the nature of the road.
“Our leaders don’t think of us, we only come to mind when they need our votes. This has been left unattended for so long. We need help,” one commuter said.
Another added, “Our bus is stuck in one of the potholes but we don’t have enough money to board another car, so we will wait when it’s fixed, we will join again.”
For car owners, they indicated that they spend more on fuel and car maintenance due to the poor road network.
However, the woes of the drivers have worsened during the rainy season.
Visiting some parts of the stretch, Ina-Thalia Quansah reported that at least three vehicles, consisting of a truck, a bus and a van were stuck in various potholes when the JoyNews team got there.
“Anytime I drive from Tarkwa to Takoradi and back I get home with so many issues with my car. If its not my tyre, it will be my shock absorber,” a driver said.
The residents are making a fervent call on government to fix their roads.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Assembly, John Agyare says the road has been awarded to a construction company.
Speaking to JoyNews on Wednesday, Mr. Agyare said government is committed to fixing the roads.
For the time being, the MCE said his outfit has engaged some contractors to undertake some temporary projects that will make the road plyable.
