Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwasi Fabin says complacency caused his side's poor show at the African Junior Championship in Morocco.
The Black Starlets could not qualify to the next stage of the competition after drawing 0-0 with Ivory Coast in their final Group B Match last Saturday.
The team were tipped to conquer Africa after impressing during their 14-day pre-tournament training tour of Italy.
Fabin, over confidence was key to his side’s failure of replicating the training tour performance at the tournament.
"We were in top shape beating every team in Italy and the scouts were swamped all over our boys," he told Joy Sports
“The boys were so confident but then we were brought down in our first game and that thought us a lesson that you don’t have to be over confident going into a tournament but rather tread cautiously and then prepare psychologically and mentality to be able to play in such tournaments.
"In Italy people were showering praises on our boys that they have never seen such an impressive youth team like that and I believe that got into their heads."
Ghana managed one defeat and two draws to finish third place in Group B.
