PAC subpoenas Woyome

Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has subpoenaed businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome to appear before it today. The committee said it has been compelled to invoke its powers of a high court after Mr. Woyome declined two invitations. Lawyers of the embattled businessman insist it is against the law for him to answer questions at the committee, whilst he is standing trial on fraud charges over the receipt of GHc 51 million in judgment debts from government. Should Mr. Woyome decline the summons, a bench warrant can be issued for his arrest with a possible prison term. Meanwhile PAC Vice Chairman, Kweku Agyemang-Manu has said the businessman has no option but to appear. “…Now the committee is summoning you, that does not give you any option to sit anywhere to determine whether you will appear or not, it is [compulsory],” he stated. “So you come to the committee, first of all that will demonstrate your respect for Parliament and its committee…”
