Residents of Afram plains face long journeys on alternate routes as two ferries recently sent to the area have broken down.
"Passengers are stranded at both sides. If you are coming from Adawso you can't cross the river with your car and if you are coming from Nkawkaw area, you can't cross with your car," a traveller told Joy News.
The ferries which were used as a means of transport before the Adomi bridge was recently opened to traffic after a refurbishment were sent to the Afram Plains on the orders of President John Mahama after the reopening of the bridge.
According to reports, the two ferries have broken down while a water bus that compliments it has run aground, leaving travellers stranded on each side of the Volta Lake.
Some residents who spoke to Joy News say they now have to journey for approximately nine hours as an alternative to the ferries.
Meanwhile, the Station Officer in charge of the ferries, Gideon Brown said a strong wind in the area on Tuesday, May 3 caused one of the ferries to be pulled aground.
He added that they are currently running on one engine instead of two.
Mr. Brown, however, assured that they are working around the clock to get the ferries back on the river to ease the stress on the travellers.
