Pastor Samuel A. Larmie, President of the Ghana Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, has reiterated the need for the education system to put equal value on academic work and good character training. He said education should be redemptive in nature and that mental, physical, social and spiritual health as well as intellectual growth and service to humanity must become its goal. Pastor Larmie was speaking at the official inauguration of the B.K Brobbey Adventist Preparatory School at Nsenie in Kumasi. The Global Mission Fund of the General Conference and the South Central Ghana Conference of the Church jointly provided the funding. Pastor Larmie said the interest of the church in education was rooted in the philosophy that students at all levels should be assisted to use their God-given talents to promote the common good of society. The SDA Church, he said, now has a global network of educational institutions, from the basic to tertiary level, offering education to as many as 148,159 students and employing 6,299 teachers. Pastor Larmie urged the management of the school to aim at achieving quality performance. The General Education Director of the Church, Mr Peter Yaw Frempah, said they should maintain high standards of discipline.
