Lagos – A pastor, Dare Apajobi, on Tuesday told a Grade `B’ Customary Court in Oshodi, Lagos that he was not ready to divorce his wife of eight years.
“The only problem I have with my wife is that she already had two children before I married her and I cannot live with those children.
“They have very bad traits of stealing and are disrespectful; she should take them to their father.“
His wife, Abigail, 29, had filed for divorce on the grounds that her husband was not responsible adding that he was always threatening and beating her.
The petitioner claimed that she had two children before her marriage to Apajobi, adding that she could not throw them away.
“I cannot throw away my children. If he is not ready for divorce, then he should accept my children.“
The petitioner added that the marriage was arranged by their church, whose General Overseer was summoned for his own side of the story.
The couple, who live at 16, Olori Street, Oshodi, however, told the court that the Overseer said he was not interested in the matter.
The couple married since 2003 and is blessed with a five-year old child.
The court’s president, Alhaja A.I. Olorunimbe, said the matter had to be adjourned as the respondent was not ready to divorce his wife.
Olorunimbe, however, urged Apajobi to make serious efforts to settle with his wife so that she could withdraw the suit and return to their matrimonial home.
She also ordered the court Registrar to invite the Overseer on the next adjourned date.
The matter was adjourned till Oct. 5 for further hearing.
