A political sociologist at the University of Cape Coast, Kingsley Adjei, says perceived arrogance led to the defeat of some prominent MPs during Sunday’s elections.He said people generally do not vote for persons perceived to be arrogant because voters usually think they cannot approach such persons.Some popular Members of Parliament lost their seats to the surprise of many because of their perceived arrogance.The political sociologist, however, notes that “sometimes people impute arrogance just like they impute charisma to people without recourse to (their) background.”He stressed the need to always look at people’s unique traits which make them different from all other people.“If we are not careful we may lump all people or all activities or all behaviours of people in politics as arrogant because of the fact that they have risen above us and are politicians”.Mr. Adjei told Joy News politicians must recognise that their body language and utterances can be interpreted to mean that they are arrogant even if they were not arrogant.He said arrogance can also be imputed to people depending on the kind of people they interact with.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
