Dr Alex Dodoo, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), has urged pharmacists to be dedicated and maintain high standards of professionalism.
He said they should ensure that the people received quality care even with the little resources available.
He said their overriding concern should be improved service delivery to the people for good health to enhance growth of the economy.
Dr Dodoo was speaking at the launch of the 75th Anniversary celebration of the Society at the Faculty of Pharmaceutics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana (KNUST).
It has the theme; "Celebrating the Contributions of Pharmaceuticals in National Development".
Dr Dodoo lauded the critical role members of the PSGH were playing through the establishment of pharmaceutical industries to provide jobs and support the national economy.
He called on the Food and Drugs Board to act decisively to protect the public from fake and harmful drugs.
Professor Kwame Sarpong, former Provost of the College of Health Sciences, encouraged the pharmacists to put the welfare of patients before their individual interest and ambition.
The Society has since its establishment in 1935, made immense contributions to the nation, he said.
Mr Kwaku Manu, Chief Executive Officer of X-Pharm Consult, donated text books valued at 6,000 US dollars to the KNUST School of Pharmacy to enhance teaching and learning.
He said as part of the celebration, the company would present awards to pharmacists who distinguish themselves in the performance of their duties.
