The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, has presented items worth 41 million cedis to 21 physically challenged persons from the district at Ajumako.
The beneficiaries were made up of 8 women and 13 men and received Space-to-Space machines, carpentry tools, sewing machines, farming inputs, barbering tools and hairdryers.
Making the presentation Mr. Kenneth Obempong, District Chief Executive, said the assistance would help alleviate their economic hardship.
Mr. Obempong said with the passing of the disability bill, government had put aside funds to support Persons with Disabilities and urged those who have not registered with the Department of Social Welfare to do so through their associations to enable them benefit from the package.
Miss. Serwah Opare, District Social Welfare Officer, appealed to the government to extend more assistance to persons with disabilities.
Mr. Albert Ato Quainoo, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the items given them to make a living.
