The Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and GETFUND, to roll out a “School Farm Initiative,” aimed at transforming underutilized school lands into productive agricultural ventures.
In a Facebook post shared on May 13 by the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, disclosed that a joint technical team has been formed in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and GETFUND to begin the rollout process.
The aim is to transform idle lands within second-cycle institutions into productive agricultural zones.
“Last week, we engaged the Ghana Education Service on our ‘School Farm Initiative’, an initiative targeted at setting up farms in the various High Schools to upscale food production in Ghana. A joint technical Team was set up to start working on the operationalisation of the initiative,” he said
Dr. Otokunor also emphasised that the initiative is in alignment with John Mahama’s broader vision of food sovereignty, skills transformation and modernization in agriculture.
“This initiative is in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of producing the food we consume in schools, to cut down the expenditure on procuring food for the schools,” he stated.
