Play Soccer Ghana, a football development organization in Ghana, has donated sachet rubber goalposts nets to the Central Regional Football Association for the promotion of football.
The nets funded by the French Embassy in Ghana, according to Play Soccer Ghana, is to promote clean cites, provide employment and ensure the participation of women’s football in Ghana.
Presenting the items to the Regional Football Association, Programs manager at Play Soccer Ghana, Anthony Asante Addo intimated it was the wish of the organization that there would be no hindrance to the development of women’s football in Ghana.

He says, Play Soccer Ghana as a way to help communities deal with waste decided to collect plastic bags and turn them into something valuable that would promote football and create employment for the communities.
Anthony Asante Addo revealed, his organization has trained volunteers in communities and also sensitize them to sort out their wastes so they could be woven into the nets.
“We go round the households, collect the sachet rubbers and then weave them into goal post net. This is to promote clean cities, help manage plastic wastes and most importantly, promote the women’s participation in football,” he stated.
The project that is being implemented across 8 communities throughout the country is expected to train community volunteers who will undertake the weaving of the nets and get some stipends out of that.
Also at the ceremony were two German female soccer stars who just retired from active football in Germany.

The two, Josephine Henning and Thabea Kemme paid a courtesy call on Play Soccer Ghana and the Regional Football Association to explore ways of supporting and helping develop women’s football in Ghana.
Thabea Kemme who spoke on behalf of the two says they came to give back to society, help people that have talents but do not have the support to appreciate the game and explore what football can do in their lives.
“It’s our pleasure to assist in getting these talents into the game. Whatever support we have, we will use in supporting them. We just want to give back to society,” she said.
Acting Central Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Alexander Tieku is upbeat should many girls get the needed support, the female games would see a greater improvement.
“To be Frank with you, we have many talents as far as the female soccer is concerned. Sometimes, what holds them back is the support needed to bring them into the limelight. And it will take the collaboration and support like what we are planning to make us achieve these dreams,” he stated.
The two female stars are in Ghana under the auspices of Common goal, an NGO that seeks resources to support the development of football across the globe, especially women soccer.
