Information gathered by Myjoyonline.com Wednesday indicates the Ghana Police Service administration has started relocating its personnel who are being forced out of their homes by landlords for non-payment of rent allowances.
Some 14 police officers are being forced out of their quarters within a fitting workshop at Adabraka, a suburb of Accra.
They have up to the end of this month to vacate the property, supposedly, for non-payment of a two-year rent allowance.
But the Director of Estates at the Police Headquarters in Accra, Superintendent Joshua Coppson, told Myjoyonline.com that it was not an issue of non-payment of rent allowance.
Rather, the new property owner at the Adabraka quarters needed his property for development purposes.
He explained they have no financial agreement with him except maybe with the initial landlord.
He said the Service has since pleaded with him to give the officers up to the end of July while the Police administration continues to relocate them fully.
The landlord of the facility, Atiemo Allotey told Joy News’ Tuesday that his patience had run out and needed his property.
Mr. Allotey alleged the personnel had not paid their rent allowance for the past two years. He intends to demolish the property for other use.
Michaela also reported of unkempt environment with waste plastic materials scattered all over the compound.
