An Opel Astra Saloon car, belonging to Mr Victor Francis Darbah, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba which was snatched from his driver in Accra last year, has been retrieved by the Winneba Police.Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Winneba, Police Chief Inspector Moses Naa-Kolgo Agbegne said the car was snatched from the lecturer's driver, James Quansah at Madina in Accra on February 4, 2009.However, last Monday, February 22, a former driver of the car, Patrick Danso spotted the car now with a new registration number at the Winneba junction and raised the alarm leading to the arrest of the driver.Chief Inspector Agbegne said when the new owner of the car, Michael Quaye, 32, from Ansaful near Winneba and the complainant, Mr. Darbah were asked to produce documents covering the vehicle, the lecturer was able to do so.Mr. Quaye then led the Police to arrest one Charles Afful who sold the car to Quaye at Agona Swedru at the cost of 3,200 Ghana Cedis.Afful in turn led the Police to arrest one Charles Mensah, a native of Agona Kwanyako who was driving the car before he bought it for 3,100 Ghana Cedis.Mensah also mentioned Muhammed Aidoo, a native of Agona Kwayanko who also implicated Kwabena Danso, a teacher at Mepom Methodist Primary School near Asamankese.Danso also claimed he bought the car from one Frank Kojo Eshun at 3,000 Ghana Cedis but stated that the suspect was involved in a criminal case and was currently in Police custody at Cape Coast.Chief Inspector Agbegne said the Cape Coast Police confirmed the story and stated that Eshun is wanted by the Commercial Crime Unit at the Criminal Intelligence Department, Headquarters in Accra.He said the Police was yet to take statements from Kojo-Eshun to find out how and where he got the car.Meanwhile, all accomplices involved in the stolen vehicle have been granted Police enquiry bail and are to report to the Police every two weeks.Source: GNA
