A Police Inspector, who stormed a charge office and took away his wife and two daughters in custody for alleged assault, is to face the full rigours of the law. Inspector Leo Boateng, the duty officer at the New Tafo police station forcibly "discharged" his wife, Juliana Baah, and two daughters, Rebecca and Doris Boateng who had been detained for allegedly assaulting another policeman's wife. Ms Rebecca Baah was said to have poured urine on the wife of a detective police inspector and together with the daughters, assaulted the complainant. They were alleged to have clubbed the victim, Esther Tetteh, rendering her unconscious – a situation that lead Esther’s admission at the Tafo Government Hospital for three says. Inspector Boateng was said to have furiously entered the charge office and taken away the family, swearing that he would never allow the police to charge them with any offence. However, the Tafo/Pankrono District Police Command responded by issuing a criminal sumons for them, culminating in their arrest and charge for causing unlawful harm. They were arraigned before the Mamponteng Magistrate Court on Tuesday. The court, presided over by Mr. Michael Yamfi Boamah, remanded Mrs. Baah in police custody, but granted bail in the sum of GH¢500, with a surety each to the daughters (because they are students) until January 13, for hearing as they all pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to Inspector Adjei, the Prosecutor, Madam Esther Tetteh is the wife of Detective Inspector Samuel Tetteh of the Tafo/ Pankrono station, living in the same rented quarters at Aboabo with the Boateng family. On January7, this year, Rebecca Boateng had a misunderstanding with a daughter of Detective inspector Tetteh, during which Rebecca injured the girl. The case was reported to the police who is¬sued a medical form to the victim to attend hospital. The prosecution said Rebecca allegedly poured urine on Madam Tetteh without any provocation after returning from the hospital. When Madam Tetteh enquired why Ms Baah done that, she was said to have dashed for a 'piece of wood and hit Madam Tetteh's forehead, after which the two daughters joined her to beat up the woman. Madam Tetteh reported the matter to the police and the three were arrested. When contacted, the Tafo/Pankrono District Police Commander, Superintendent Kwasi Ofori, condemned Inspector Boateng's conduct, stressing that he had tarnished the image of the Police Service and would be dealt with according to law. "No one is above the law and he cannot take the law into his own hands by obstructing the work of the police; hence, the criminal summons to deal with him. Supt. Ofori said the police administration would do al it can to maintained and promote discipline in the service.
