Police in the Northern Region have intercepted a cache of ammunition from two persons said to be of Fulani extraction.
The two, who escaped arrest, were carrying the ammunition on a motorbike before being accosted by a policeman.
This was confirmed by the Northern Region Police PRO Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh in an interview with Joy News.
According to him, the police man who was on guard duty in Gushiegu saw the suspects on motorbike at 12:30 am, a period said to be under curfew.
The police man threw his bicycle on the path of the suspects which culminated in their motorbike falling into the ditch.
The suspects then escaped before they could be arrested.
Ebenezer Tetteh said the suspects left behind six magazines all fully loaded and 175 rounds of AK47 which adds up to 366 ammunition.
He said initial investigations indicate that the suspects were of Fulani extraction.
The rider was having one AK47 on his shoulder, with the other carrying the rest of the ammunition, he explained.
The interception comes on the back of an ongoing debate over the increasing threat fulanis pose to the security of the country.
Only last week, the people of Agogo in the Ashanti Region went on a demonstration to protest the increasing number of fulanis in the area.
They claimed the settlers kill, maim and rape their women with impunity.
The Northern Region police say they are hunting for the two suspects.
