Police in the Western Region are on the lookout for armed robbers who staged a highway robbery on the Asankragwa-Bawdie road yesterday.
The armed robbers who are said to be seven in number attacked several vehicles including two metro mass buses and took away thousands of cedis and other valuables belonging to the passengers.
The unidentified robbers shot the driver of one of the metro mass buses and a woman and severely beat up those who resisted. The police say there were as many as a hundred victims.
Western Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent, James Kofi Abraham told Joy News they’ve intensified their patrols on that stretch of the road despite the challenges.
He said the long distances between the towns on the road make patrolling a herculean task.
The passengers on the buses were mainly market women who were travelling to transact business.
The injured are said to be responding to treatment at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital.
