The Northern Regional Police Commander has stated that rumours making the rounds about some residents stockpiling weapons are being investigated.
According to him, although the claims have not been proven, the Regional Police Command is not treating the issue lightly and has put officers on red alert.
In an interview with Joy News, ACP Angwubotoge Awuni said although Tamale is peaceful, the Police are stepping up vigilance to enable them prevent any possible outbreak of violence in the region.
“If anybody said that there is violence in Tamale you should not believe it [because] the place is very very calm. There are rumours that cannot be substantiated that cannot be substantiated that people have started stockpiling arms in Yendi, but we’ve sent people round to find out; we’re investigating it” he said.
During the week, 39 suspected narcotic drug peddlers were arrested by the police in a routine operation.
