The Accra Regional Police Command on Thursday, warned the public to be wary of unscrupulous people in the haulage industry, who were engaged in the diversion of goods from their original destinations and advised those involved in the business of handling goods to engage credible and recognised haulage/transport unions. In a statement released in Accra, the Police said instead of these drivers delivering the goods to their original destinations, they connived with others to divert the goods and sell them. They would then report to the Police that they had been robbed.“Their modus is that they arrange for their own trucks, which most of the time have fake registration number plates, to outwit detection.”The goods involved were mostly iron rods, cement, sugar and rice, the statement said.It reminded the public that the following telephone numbers for the Police were still active: 030 2 773906; 030 2 773695; 024 4331935, and MTN Short Code 18555.Source: GNA
