The Deputy Health Minister, Bernard Okoe Boye says political leaders have a role to play in reducing the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe Sunday, the Deputy Minister said political actors have a responsibility to ensure that their supporters during campaign tours abide by the Covid-19 safety protocols.
The Ledzokuku legislator stressed that the country has chalked significant success in fighting the disease, hence, must not be derailed by political rallies.
Following the surge in Ghana's Covid-19 cases, the country has had cause to be concerned about the onset of a second wave of the disease.
President Akufo-Addo in his last address to the nation of the fight against the virus indicated the development is because many Ghanaians let their guard down.
He further urged that conscious effort be made to improve compliance and nip the virus in the bud.
But with political rallies heightening in many parts of the country, health experts fear these mass gatherings are a panacea for a boost in the numbers.
This, the Ghana Medical Association has warned that there could be a potential hike in cases of the novel coronavirus as political campaigns intensify ahead of the December 7 elections.
As of November 22, Ghana has 157 new Covid-19 infections, 1,146 active cases and 323 deaths. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has so far recorded 50,874 cases with 49,405 recoveries/discharge.
