Mr. Godfred Abledu, the President of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), has reiterated the groups decision to continue with its indefinite strike until government resolves their grievances.
Mr. Abledu added that the council of POTAG had a meeting on Monday and have decided to continue with the strike indefinitely until every single request is granted.
Mr. Abledu says the association is very disappointed in the Fair Wages & Salaries Commission (FWSC), which is responsible for streamlining their remunerations. The Association has henceforth withdrawn all services to the Polytechnics until further notice.
In a related development, President of the Cape Coast branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) , Dr. Eric Wilmont, says their members are still on strike as they are yet to be informed of the outcome of the meeting with the council of Vice-Chancellors.
Dr. Wilmont indicated that he and his executives will want to provide their members with information on the outcome of the said meeting before informing the public about their decision, going forward.
The director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Paul Krampah, however believes that the groups should not turn their backs on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission as the body is the only legally mandated institution to negotiate salaries with government workers.
He adviced the groups to meet with officials of the FWSC to iron out their differences in order to put a stop to the strike that is affecting tertiary education in the country.
