Polytechnic teachers across the country have served notice they will embark on an indefinite strike by August if they are not migrated onto the new pay policy.
According to POTAG, February 28 this year was set as the deadline for the payment of newly negotiated salary levels but members are yet to know their fate.
Executives of the association told a news conference in Kumasi that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has shown little interest in addressing the concerns of members.
Luv FM’s Elton John Brobbey reports that the leadership of POTAG are distraught as they have waited for over a year for the Commission to act.
President of POTAG, Anthony Ayakwah told the news conference that the association is not aware of the level at which its members will be placed on the new pay structure.
“Even though the service classification exercise has been completed and sent to the FWSC for the necessary action more than two months ago, FWSC has still not called a meeting to approve and subsequently implement payment of these allowances.”
He blamed state institutions such as the Labour Commission for failing to consider the issues they have been raising.
In view of this, Mr. Ayakwah said “POTAG hereby resolves that the government should work on improving the conditions of service of its members and pay all arrears which should take effect from January 2010 without delay” or the group will be forced to resume its sit down strike in August.
