After casting his vote at the open booth polling station near his private residence at Airport West in Accra yesterday, President Kufuor said, with the exception of a few skirmishes in places, the electoral process had proceeded well.
The President, who arrived at the polling station at 10.25 a.m., was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Theresa Kufuor, along with the usual security detail.
Responding to questions from journalists, President Kufuor said he would be keeping his fingers crossed and wait for the voting to end and the results declared before bursting into any excitement.
He said he was hopeful that the electorate would elect a successor at the end of the elections.
At the Public Works Department (PWD) Castle polling station in the Korle Klottey Constituency, voting came to a standstill when former President Jerry John Rawlings showed up at exactly 9.57 a.m. to cast his vote, Rebecca Quaicoe Duho reports.
The arrival of the former President was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers from hundreds of anxious residents and voters in and around Osu Alata who had been waiting for his arrival since the poll started at 7:20 a.m.
The former President who was in white linen short-sleeved shirt over a pair of cream trousers, arrived in a green Toyota Land Cruiser to cast his vote.
Responding to the cheers from the crowd before heading for where he had to cast his vote, Flt. Lt. Rawlings spoke to some people in the queue and also waved back to the crowd in acknowledgement of their cheers.
The former President then hand-picked some senior citizens who were in the queue to join him to cast their votes after he had asked permission from those in the queue.
Within a period of 10 minutes, the former President had finished casting his votes and was followed by the teeming crowd that had grown thicker as more people came out from their houses to join in the cheers.
Addressing the media after he had finished voting, the former President called on Ghanaians to ensure that there was peace after the elections.
He also called on Ghanaians to remain calm but vigilant.

Already in a joyful mood, the Vice President who was clad in all white linen caftan over black shoes, told the Daily Graphic: "Sure, I feel confident that we are going to win 'onetouch'."
According to him, the government of the New Patriotic Party had served the people well and he was sure that "we will move forward".
"I have been monitoring the situation on radio and television and I believe things are moving on well; I only pray that at the end of the polls, we will all celebrate the victor," he said.
Asked where he would be going after casting his vote, he said: "I will go home and rest and listen to what is happening".
