President Mills has sent a congratulatory message to President Sebastian Pinera Echenique and the people of Chile on the occasion of the successful rescue of miners trapped underground for over two months.
In a letter dated October 14, and addressed to the Chilean president, President Mills said “It was with great joy that we witnessed the success of the spectacular rescue operation that saved all the thirty-three mine workers who were trapped 2,041 feet deep in the San Jose Mine for more than two months.
“On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our warmest congratulations to you, the government and people of Chile for this spectacular feat which has won your country richly-deserved admiration throughout the world.
“Your able leadership and personal fortitude throughout the grueling days of fear and anxiety that gripped your country and people around the world has been an inspiration to all.
“As the heroic miners and their families and world at large unite in joy and gratitude, I am confident that the experience of Chile shall further deepen our appreciation of our common humanity.”
The rescue mission came to an explosive end Thursday morning as family, friends and neighbours of the rescued minors shed tears of joy at re-uniting with the survival heroes.
