President John Evans Atta Mills has returned home from Equatorial Guinea where he attended the 17th Session of the African Union (AU) summit, with a resolve to involve more youth in his administration. He said he was very satisfied with the performance of the youth whom he had already involved in his administration, which had emboldened him to bring more youthful content on board. Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who briefed journalists after the President’s arrival, said the President’s message at the summit, in line with the theme: "Accelerating Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development", focused on youth empowerment and the need for a good economy to be able to empower the youth. “You cannot talk of youth empowerment without talking about the economy,” he said, adding that, this would enable governments to better invest in the youth by providing good education and employment, among others. Alhaji Mumuni stated that President Mills’ message went down well as his colleagues agreed that in order to empower the youth, it was critical to make their economies robust and resilient. He said the Libyan Crisis took centre stage at the Summit, which adopted a set of proposals by the AU High Level ad hoc Committee on Libya for a framework agreement within the context of the AU roadmap to bring a solution to that crisis. The framework would include immediate cessation of hostilities, humanitarian interventions to bring relief to people suffering because of the crisis and a comprehensive peace process. It would also include dialogue between the various factions in the crisis and a political framework to ensure good governance, democracy, rule of law and free elections for the people of Libya. The President was met on arrival by Vice President John Mahama, some ministers of state, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Quaye, Chief of Defence Staff- Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, and some service commanders.
