President John Mills has asked Ghanaians to be more disciplined and hardworking this year.
The President said although the country was blessed to be peaceful and stable, Ghanaians ought to do their bit to ensure the country becomes more prosperous.
“When we hear and see things around us, it is not by our power or our might, we have to give thanks to God but we must also remember that heaven helps those who help themselves. We need therefore to work hard, to be disciplined, to be honest, to be transparent and above all to be humble in whatever we do,” he told a congregation at the Independence Square on Sunday.
He was speaking at the national prayer and thanksgiving service held to end the national week of fasting and prayer.
The event, which was instituted last year, was also to crown celebrations marking the country’s independence and seek the face of God on some national issues.
The President said although the programme marked the end of a national week of prayer and fasting, Ghanaians must not cease praying and reading the bible.
Several members of the clergy including Pastor Charles Agyin Asare were at the event.
