Ghana’s female quartet team of Janet Amponsah, Beatrice Gyaman, Elizabeth Amolofo and Rosina Amenegbede is the country’s prized athletics team following recent performances in major competitions.
The female team is due to return home this weekend after winning silver at the commonwealth Games which draws to a close today.
The recent performance follows a bronze medal success at the Africa championship in Kenya three months ago.
President of Ghana athletics Professor Doudu is hopeful of a continuous rise in athletics after the resurgence.
South Africa is the only top ranked African country on the medal table and are placed 5th with 33 medals behind powerhouses Australia, England, hosts India, and Canada.
Kenya is placed 6th with 32 medals. The Eastern African country also won its 11th athletics gold medal on the final day of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi after John Kelai and Irene Jerotich sealed a double marathon gold.
The performances of the Kenyans in the marathon saw them top the athletics medal table ahead of Australia for the first time in Commonwealth Games history.
Another African country, Nigeria placed 7th on the overall medal ranking with 35 medals. Ghana is ranked 27th on the medal table out of 71 countries with 4 medals.
