President John Mahama has reiterated his commitment to expand the existing job creation programmes in the country in order to accommodate more unemployed youth in the coming years.
The president said the LESDEP programme will be expanded and enhanced to provide meaningful employment to Ghanaians.
President Mahama made the statement at a rally in Ngleshie Amanfro in the Greater Accra region as he commenced his campaign tour of the region on Saturday.
The president also noted that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will explore all possible avenues with relevant stakeholders in order to create more jobs for the teaming university graduates.
“Everybody wants jobs because jobs are important… and so we are going to expand LESDEP so that many more young people can benefit from it. As a result every district has a LESDEP Coordinator who are ensuring the smooth running of the programme,” the president said.
He said people who want to benefit from the programme must therefore register at the district level adding “you choose which profession you want to learn and then we’ll put you in the profession.”
He said LESDEP will continue to provide those who graduate from the programme with the needed machines to start up their own businesses.
