President John Mills will be away in the US for a few more days than anticipated. The President on departure at the Kotoka International Airport last Saturday had told newsmen he was going for a routine medical check-up he said would last a few days.
Parliament has however been informed that the President will be away for more than a week.
First Deputy Speaker, Edward Doe Adzaho, who read the formal notice to legislators yesterday, said President Mills has indicated he will be away in the US until Monday, 25 June.
The President’s letter reads: “In accordance with Article 59 of the Constitution of Ghana, I write to inform you that I shall be away in the US from Saturday, 16 June to Monday 25 June, 2012 for a routine medical check-up.
“During my absence the Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, shall in accordance with Article 60 (8) of the Constitution act in my stead. Kindly accept, Right Honourable the assurances of my highest consideration. Signed, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, President of the Republic of Ghana.”
