Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo says the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has contracted the services of psychologists to work on the minds of victims of the Nkonya-Alavanyo conflict.

Speaking to JOYNEWS, the minister noted that although there is peace in the area, its decision is to avert a possible retaliation by people, who lost relatives in the conflict.

“We have also planned and arranged with a psychologist to engage the youth and people, who have been affected directly or indirectly. We were advised by some of the youth in the community to engage them and prepare their minds so that they can forgive and forget”, the Regional minister noted.

Feuding factions in the Alavanyo-Nkonya clashes in June this year, signed a declaration to never again use conflict to settle their differences.

JoyNews’ Seth Kwame Boateng reports that REGSEC is also taking steps to implement all recommendations made on the conflict.

According to the Volta Regional minister, the council is leaving no stone unturned in bringing lasting peace to the conflict areas of Alavanyo and Nkonya.

In the circumstance, Nii Afotey Agbo noted that the formation of a football team comprising the youth from the two feuding communities, is in the offing.

Additionally, the minister indicated that footballs and jerseys for the community team to be known as ALANKO, are ready as the initiative will foster cordial relationship between the two communities and help solve the problem that had existed for decades.

The minister also noted that arrangements are underway for the commencement of the construction of a police station soon in the area to serve the two communities.

 Some of the roads within the area are also targeted for construction as it had held tender processes last week, Nii Afotey Agbo intimated, stressing that the construction of a Senior High School (SHS) in one of the two communities is also on the agenda.

 Meanwhile, the curfew instituted on the area is still in place as the Regional minister said REGSEC wants to achieve results and therefore not in a haste of taking the curfew off.

Nonetheless, the minister pointed out that REGSEC had been recommended to relax the curfew periods as the Minister for Interior will soon announce its reduction.
