The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of O’Reilly Senior High School has honoured Master Caleb Kudah for placing third in the International Public Speaking competition in the United Kingdom.
Caleb, who emerged winner of the Young Debaters Competition held in Ghana, was presented with a Dell Laptop by the PTA.
He is currently the Senior Prefect of the O’Reilly Senior High School at Asylum Down in Accra.
Caleb joined 80 participants from 48 countries in a speech-delivering competition on the topic: “For the Love of Country”, which took place from May 20 to 29, 2011 in the UK.
At the ceremony to honour him, the Chairman of the PTA, Alhaji Baber Ali, said the association and the entire school management acknowledged his sterling performance in both the local and international competitions.
“You have indeed made O’Reilly proud,” he said, adding that 2011 was the year of restoration for the school which had been operating from private premises for some decades now.
The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Ms Ernestina Afosah-Anim, commended all who contributed to the success of Caleb in one way or the other.
“He has made all of us proud.
“He did not disappoint us, but worked extra hard to raise the image of O’Reilly and the flag of Ghana high,” she said.
She charged students to take active part in co-curricular activities since those activities could serve as fertile platforms in the discovery and nurturing of their talents.
The Headmistress of O’Reilly Senior High School, Mrs Mary Adu-Gyamfi, said, “we acknowledge the hard work, talent and distinction of our student, I cannot help, but to thank God for His faithfulness and His favour on our school”.
She said the mission of the school was to train students to unearth their innate potentials and instill in them excellent values through quality teaching, training and inspiration.
Mrs Adu-Gyamfi said Caleb’s achievement was an important milestone on the personal journey toward the realisation of that mission.
“The Board of Governors and the PTA deserve our commendation for the organisation of this award ceremony and showing to the school that they believe in the school’s vision of becoming a model school in training our products to excel in all positive aspects of life,” she said.
The Board Chairman, Mr Akumfi Ameyaw Buanya, thanked the management of the school for creating an environment for Caleb to triumph.
Caleb’s coach, Mr Thomas Acquah, was given a gift and GH¢ 100.
