In a dynamic industry like ours things keep changing, new cuts keep surfacing, new talents will always be discovered so far as show business remains part of our way of life.
Historically music production (sound engineering) in Ghana has become static.
Apart from a few creative once who are hardly heard of the known and accepted, one tends to loose focus after reigning for a couple of months and begins to repeat the same beats over and over for different artistes.
Its quit clear that the new producers will always be creative and spend more time to bring out the best but how different will they be if they also become popular.
For some time now the name “QUICK ACTION” has gained weight and can be added to the list of professional beat makers Ghana can boast of.
His name is Joseph Appiah and he hails from Larteh Akuapim in the Eastern Region. His showbiz name Quick Action was given to him by Tic Tac when he was recording Tic Tac’s “Fefe ne fe”.
Explaining the scenario Joseph said that day, anything Tic Tac directed him to add to the beat he did it was ease.
So after showing such humbleness for some time Tic named him, the man of quick action and this has remained his signature till date and guess what he has no intentions of changing it any time soon.
Quick Action started playing the keyboard at the age of seven, got into studio recording in 1998 and the first producer he met was Jay Q.
He started serious business at the PnT Recording Studio until he had his own studio (S24 Recording studio) on the Spintex road.
Apart from Tic Tac, he has also worked with Nana Quame, Okomfour Kwadee, Mary Ghansah, Cindy Thompson, Jane and Bernice, Bright of Buk Bak fame Batman Sarnini and lots more.
He also recorded a Ghana@50 song with Samini, Mac Tonto of Osibisa fame and Afro Moses. He did the beat for Samini’s “Odo” that won him the best African Art at the MOBO (Music of Black Origin) awards in the UK.
About the up coming Ghana Music Awards Quick Action said he believes anything that happens will be to the glory of the Lord.
Though he thinks it wouldn’t be bad if he wins the award for the recording engineer of the year, he still trust if he doesn’t win any award this year, there are several awards ahead in the future.
Over such a short period this new kid on the block has been able to put together a compilation titled “Quick Action compilation” which features Bright, Tinny, Okra, Kwaw Kese, Okomfour Kwadee, Pop Skinny, 4x4 and a host of them.
According to him the DVD and VCD of the making of the compilation will be released very soon.
Even though Quick Action is new among already known big names like Jay Q, Appietus, Roro, Morris Baby Face, Hammer, Suga Tone, Fredima and others he does not think he is in competition with anybody but rather he always learns a thing or two from all of them.
Quick Action was quick enough disclosed that his mentor from childhood has always been Zapp Mallet.
