A circuit court at Dormaa Ahenkro has jailed a 21-year-old miller, Kwaku Augustine aka Apulley of Aboabo No.4 for defiling an eight year old girl.
Apulley bolted from the town after committing the crime in 2002 and returned in November 2009 when he was arrested by the police.
Chief Inspector Matthew Yeboah told the court presided by Justice Isaac Bright Akwantey that Apulley invited the girl into his shop and asked her to buy him iced water.
When the girl returned with the water Apulley lured her into his bedroom near the shop and forcibly had sex with her and warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anyone.
Three days later, a close friend of the victim detected that blood oozed from the victim's private part and reported it to the mother who in turn reported it to the police, the prosecutor said.
Chief Inspector Yeboah said the victim was rushed to Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital where it was detected that her genitals had been tampered with and seriously damaged.
He said Apulley bolted from the town and all attempts made to trace him proved futile until he was arrested by the police on November 22 last year.
The prosecutor said Apulley denied committing the act but evidence in court proved him otherwise.
In a related development, the court also sentenced 18 year old Abdul Mumuni, a Fulani herdsman to 30 months imprisonment for breaking into the bedroom of a chief butcher at Dormaa Ahenkro and stealing a single-barrelled gun on March 10 this year.
A second accused, Ali Mohammed, who also appeared with him was acquitted and discharged for want of evidence.
Chief Inspector Yeboah told the court that Mumuni stole the gun and moved to Jinijini near Berekum where he again got involved in cattle rustling and was arrested.
Mumuni admitted stealing the gun.
