Former Ghana President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings says he is relieved by the promise of commitment to the progress of democracy in Togo by the current government headed by President Faure Gnassingbe.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of a two-day visit to Togo on Thursday, the former President said: “It would be more prudent to keep my observations to my chest while we see how the quality of democracy and equitable development programmes evolve.”
Flt Lt Rawlings who was accompanied by General Arnold Quainoo, a member of the Council of State, a retired Chief of Defence Staff and also a conflict resolution advocate, was in Togo at the invitation of the Togolese President.
He admitted, however, that he was relieved, not so much with the words he had heard from the political leadership but by the spirit behind them.
