A member of the government communication’s team, Gabby Asumeng has said the party’s founder Jerry John Rawlings is no God to determine who the winner of the 2012 elections will be.
The former president addressing the June 4 rally at Aflao, Sunday questioned how the NDC could hope to win the election after shunning the ideals of the June 4 uprising that formed the basis for which the NDC was founded.
But Mr Assumeng speaking on Monday’s Kokrokoo programme on Peace FM emphasised that the NDC as party adhered strictly to the principles of June 4 in the run up to the 2000, and 2004 elections yet lost.
He said Mr. Rawlings, who is now championing the ideals of June 4 was not able to convince the electorate even when he was president of the country.
He, however, acknowledged that the principles of June 4 Uprising, which Mr. Rawlings has been trumpeting, had to be upheld if the party is to be re-elected in the coming elections.
He said come what may, the NDC led by the President Mills, would win the upcoming elections.
The 2012 June 4 Anniversary celebrations were not without controversies.
First it was some chiefs who purported to be acting on behalf of the Aflao chiefs that sought to advocate the change of venue for the event. The move by the chiefs led to the trading of accusations as to what or who might have motivated their action.
Whereas the organizers of the event accused some government officials of being behind the action, the government appointees pled their innocence.
