The Office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has debunked “wide publicity in the media” that the former first couple would participate in a durbar at Akatsi to honour the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe-Adjaho.
Mr Doe Adjaho, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ave-Avenor, is expected to be honoured tomorrow, Saturday, for his contribution towards the development of the area.
Dignitaries including former President J.J Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings; the Speaker of Parliament, Mrs. Joyce Bamford Addo; Members of Parliament; Ministers of State; Members of the Diplomatic Corps and other important personalities are billed to grace the occasion.
However, in a statement sent to Myjoyonline.com Friday, the Office of the former President stated unequivocally that: “Neither [the former] President nor Mrs. Rawlings has accepted the invitation to the ceremony slated for Saturday, March 3, 2012.”
The statement further stated: “We write to correct the wrong impression by the media publicity on the event and wish to state that the organisers of the durbar have been duly informed of the inability of His Excellency and Mrs. Rawlings to participate in the event.”
