The Volta Regional Security Council says it is too early to lift the curfew imposed on Hohoe.
Paramount chief of Gbi Traditional Area Togbega Gabasu yesterday made the request when President John Mahama visited the area.
The curfew was imposed four months ago following clashes between indigenes and Muslim settlers there.
Torgbui Gabasu explained the curfew is crippling business.
Residents in the area are also frustrated by the prolonged curfew. They have therefore accused officials handling the matter of adopting what they describe stopgap measures.
Others also complained of harassment by military personnel detailed to the community.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has announced the inauguration of a committee of enquiry to look into recent disturbances in the area.
Volta Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel explains the delay in establishing the committee was upon a request by the traditional authorities for time to perform rituals.
He however tells Joy News the matter will be dealt with swiftly to ensure lasting peace.
In an unrelated development, the Paramount chief of Chala, Nana Kanewu Chederi Addo has called on President Mahama to see through his promise of completing the Eastern corridor road project.
He made this known when the President paid a courtesy call on him on day two of the NDC’s campaign tour of the Nkwanta South constituency in the upper Volta.
President Mahama pledged to fulfill the promise of delivering the Eastern Corridor road project; one that will see the northern parts of Ghana easily connected to the nation’s capital, Accra.
