There is acute water shortage in Kpalime Duga in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region a situation which has left residents stranded.

The residents now have to dig deep in a river bed in a desperate move to get water.

Joy News Volta Region correspondent Ivy Setordzi reports of chaos at the river bed as residents sometimes argue in desperate search for water.

Ironically, Kpalime Duga is just meters away from the Volta Lake which serves as a central business point.

According to Setordzi, the nearest potable water available is miles away in the next community.

The residents say the whole community now depends on the water that gushes out from the river bed for their source of water.

They claim they sometimes hang around till 1:00 am, digging and hoping water will gush out for them  to scoop.

The problem becomes worse when some of the residents bring big barrels to scoop.

The DCE for South Dayi Kafui Samanu Bekoe said they are working tirelessly to get the residents potable water to drink.

"We are making every effort to get them water," he stated.
