The people of Abodzikrom near Mfranta in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District have appealed to the government and the district assembly to construct a bridge over River Oboadaka that links Abodzikrom/Mfranta/Suhum/Asamankese truck road before the rains set in.
The Chief Farmer of Abodzikrom, Opanyin Kwaku Apendu, made the appeal at a harvest of the people of Mfranta in aid of on-going projects in the town.
Opanyin Apeadu said the wooden bridge on the river was washed away four years ago and that the people, through communal labour, constructed another one with coconut trees but that had also been destroyed during last year's rainy season.
He said last year three school children drowned in the river while crossing it from Abodzisekrom to Mfranta to attend school.
Opanyin Apeadu said anytime there was heavy rainfall the river flooded its banks and also destroyed their farms.
The Acting Odikro of Mfranta, Bafour Kofi Dartey, commended the Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Mr Godfried Okyere, for his efforts in the construction of two schools, the primary and the senior high schools for the people.
He also commended Mr Okyere for the rehabilitation of their four-kilometer road from Sowatey to Mfranta.
