Dr. H. S Daannaa, Director of Research at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, has advised traditional authorities in the country to as a matter of urgency settle all chieftaincy disputes for national development. He said "if chieftaincy disputes are resolved it would improve the socio-cultural development of the communities and country as a whole". Dr. Daannaa gave the advise at a workshop on the Chieftaincy Act 2008, Act 759 for members of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, at Sekondi on Friday. The workshop, sponsored by Konard-Adenauer-Stifun (KAS), was on the theme: "Chieftaincy Act 2008, Act 759 and the ethics of a chief". Dr. Daannaa explained that "Act 759 2008 deals with chieftaincy bulletin, which is an official publication of the National House of Chiefs on matters affecting chieftaincy and it will also serve as a mouthpiece of chiefs".He said the House shall determine the periods of publication and it would inform the public about persons who are chiefs in the country. Dr. Daannaa said that the bulletin would contain articles on chieftaincy as well as opinions expressed by chiefs. He reminded the public that the President of the National House of Chiefs, Vice President of the House or a member of House shall hold office for four years and on the expiration of the term of office, he is eligible for re-election.Dr. Daannaa, however, said "A person shall not hold office as president or vice president of the House for more than two terms in succession".He called on Ghanaians to report to the Police or Ministry any person who would pose as a chief. Osagyefo Dr. Kwamena Enmil VI, the Paramount Chief of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, said laws are dynamic and keep on changing to cope with societal needs and the demands of time. He commended Konard-Adenauer-Stifun (KAS) for sponsoring the programme. CO 8 Aug 09 Attention recipients, item 09 ends third cast.Source: GNA/Ghana
