The One Ghana Movement has strongly condemned the wave of violence, vandalism, and looting that has erupted in parts of the country, including Damongo, Awutu Senya, Nsawam, Tamale, Techiman South, and Accra, following the presidential election.
“These acts of aggression are a threat to the peace, stability, and unity of our beloved nation,” said the group in a statement signed by its Director, Senyo Hosi.
While commending the peaceful concession made by the NPP’s presidential candidate as a positive step toward democratic consolidation, the group lamented that the post-election violence undermines the core values of democracy, justice, and the rule of law.
The One Ghana Movement called on President-elect John Mahama to take immediate steps to quell the unrest by condemning the violence, urging restraint from all citizens, and ensuring that law enforcement agencies hold perpetrators accountable regardless of political affiliation.
They also urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to direct the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and impartially to restore calm and protect lives and property in the affected areas.
The statement concluded with an appeal to all Ghanaians to rise above division and hatred, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
“As a nation, we have overcome challenges before, and we are confident that together, we can navigate these trying times to emerge even stronger.
"Let us embrace the spirit of togetherness that defines us as Ghanaians.”
