An Accra Circuit Court last Thursday freed two persons accused of robbery who had been remanded without trial for almost two years.
The accused persons, Adams Sumaila Mumuni, a mason and Mohammed Issah, a bicycle repairer, facing conspiracy and robbery charges, had their case adjourned 50 times because the complainant never made herself available for the trial.
Adams Sumaila Mumuni and Mohammed Issah had been accused of entering a Game Centre at Anyaa Market, a suburb of Accra and stealing GHc 280, 50,000 CFA, a DSTV Projector, among other gadgets at the place.
A few minutes after the case was called, a letter, written and signed by the complainant, Salifu Giallo, was read in court in which he (complainant) said he only reported that he had been assaulted and not that he had been robbed.
The trial judge consequently granted bail to the suspects and ordered them to live around Accra.
According to the facts of the case, on 23 February 2012, the suspects allegedly attacked the complainant with a cutlass and a machete at his Game Centre at Anyaa Market and stole the above-quoted sums of money, DSTV projector valued at Ghc 1,200 and a game machine valued at GHc 700, in the presence of some witnesses.
A report was made to the police and the suspects were arrested and arraigned after police had concluded investigations.
