Rotaract District 9104, the umbrella organisation for all Rotaract clubs in Ghana, has given the male ward of Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital in Mankessim a facelift.
Following a comprehensive needs assessment conducted in collaboration with hospital authorities, Rotaract District 9104 identified the renovation of the male ward as a priority project.

Before its renovation, the ward faced a multitude of challenges that hindered its functionality and comfort.
The absence of windows and inefficient fans led to poor ventilation, causing discomfort for both patients and staff.
Moreover, the limited space for admissions and the small entrance made it difficult to add new beds and transport patients, creating logistical hurdles.
The inadequate lighting further exacerbated the situation, impacting visibility and potentially affecting patient recovery.

Additionally, the worn-out paintwork on the walls contributed to an uninviting atmosphere. However, through a creative and thoughtful renovation process, these challenges were overcome.
Swift to respond, Rotaract District 9104 mobilised resources and expertise to address the challenges facing the ward.
The refurbished ward now boasts spacious windows and efficient fans, ensuring a cooler and more comfortable environment for patients, particularly amidst Ghana's sweltering temperatures.
Undertaken as part of the District Training and Assembly Conference (DTAC), the project's commencement marked a significant milestone for Rotaract District 9104.
The sod for the project was cut on March 29, 2024.
Expressing gratitude for the timely assistance, Father Charles Bekpar, representing the hospital management, remarked, "We are grateful that you came to our aid."

He acknowledged the financial constraints faced by the hospital and welcomed the support provided by Rotary and Rotaract District 9104.
Ophelia Mensah, Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, commended Rotary District 9104 for their dedication to service and encouraged continued support for vulnerable communities.
"I am thankful for your continuous support. But like Oliver Twist, we want to ask for more. We have many vulnerable communities that will appreciate your help," she remarked.
She was quick to add “I like your energy and desire to help communities. Not long ago, I was on another project commissioned by some individuals from your club, and I must say it made me happy. So let me say that I want to join your group. Add me!”

District Governor Dave Amankwah Jnr., the leader of Rotary District 9104, commended the Rotaract members for their swift action and commitment to humanitarian causes.
"It is a proud moment for Rotary, Rotaract, and for humanity. Rotarians say we will do things for people we will never know and never meet," he remarked, underscoring the ethos of Rotary's service-oriented philosophy.
"We are proud of you. I am proud that after moving from Jirapa, by destiny and some fortitude, we were directed here and quickly they put this together," emphasised District Governor Dave Amankwah Jnr., marking a significant milestone for the newly created District 9104, showcasing the collective power of service-minded individuals coming together to make a difference.

Echoing the sentiment, the District Rotaract Representative, Dennis Kojo Amakye, pledged continued support to the hospital's endeavours.
"We will do more before the rotary year ends," he assured, highlighting Rotaract’s ongoing commitment to community service.
In addition to the renovation project, the hospital management revealed plans for a pharmacy expansion, seeking assistance from the Rotary community.
In a generous gesture, DG Dave Amankwah Jnr. pledged 50 bags of cement to support the pharmacy project. DRR Dennis Kojo Amakye pledged further assistance to the hospital's pharmacy project, echoing the sentiment of his fellow Rotaractors to continue making meaningful contributions.
DTAC (now known as the DLAC) is the yearly convergence of Rotaract leaders from past, present, and future generations, coming together for training sessions to prepare for the upcoming rotary year.
The conference for this year took place from March 27 to March 31, 2024, at Manna Heights in Mankessim, centred around the theme "Creating Hope through Leadership."
With over 100 Rotaractors participating in the DTAC, this event showcased the collective strength and dedication of Rotaract District 9104.
Rotaractors, young professionals, and students are committed to service and leadership development, working alongside Rotary to support communities across Ghana.
Through initiatives like the male ward renovation, Rotary and Rotaract have left an indelible mark on thousands of communities, embodying the spirit of service above self.
