The Rotary Club of Ho has initiated a fundraiser campaign to upgrade the deteriorating Kpando Health Center in the Kpando Municipality of the Volta Region to a Polyclinic status.
The Club is hoping to raise about GH₵300,000 to renovate and refurbish the maternity unit and enforce the facility's human resource to ensure the delivery of quality maternal and child health services.
The campaign is primarily aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality rate in the catchment area.
The Kpando Health Center is currently in a worrying deplorable state.
The facility which compliments the already burdened Margaret Marquart Hospital has limited space to operate and human resources.
It does not have enough logistics, hence, making difficult to provide quality healthcare to the residents.
The Kpando Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Samuel Abudey, lamented the sorry state of the Health Center, indicating it has seen very little improvement although it is one of the oldest health facilities in the Volta Region.
He said attempts to introduce new services and improve on existing ones proved futile due to the lack of resources.
In this regard, the Rotary Club of Ho launched a fundraiser to refurbish the maternal health unit to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ho, Alphonse Makafui Dzakpasu, said the project would cost about GH₵300,000.
He said it was part of his outfit's vision to contribute improve healthcare in the region, with a focus on maternal and child health.
“The proposed project will cost us about GH₵250, 000 to GH₵300,000 to renovate the health center. This will help us touch on the roofing, help us touch on the ceiling, the entire infrastructure, the columns, the walls and everything about it and make it a befitting place”, he said.
He added that the facility when completed would be stocked with modern equipment to meet the health demand of residents.
He, therefore, entreated all and sundry to contribute towards raising funds for the project in order to facilitate the provision of quality healthcare to residents in the Kpando Municipality.
“It [the Poly Clinic] will help us bring quality care to the people of Kpando, so we are charging everybody in the room and everybody in Ghana to contribute toward this great project”, he said.
