Officials of the South African High Commission have interrogated the three South African ex-police officers who are in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

The men were questioned Tuesday morning after the Foreign Affairs Ministry granted access to the High Commission to visit them.

Sources close to JOYNEWS have disclosed that information gathered from the questioning has been sent to South African national security agency in Pretoria to establish the citizenship status of the three men.

The three men, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (Rtd.) 54, WO/Denver Dwayhe Naidu (Rtd.) 39, and Captain Mlungiseleli Jokani (Rtd.) 45 were picked up at the El Capitano Hotel at Agona Duakwa Sunday, March 20 by BNI officials in the Agona East of the Central region.

According to a BNI document sent to JOYNEWS, “The trio, all ex-police officers were engaged in training fifteen young men in various military drills, including unarmed combat, weapon handling, VIP protection techniques and rapid response maneuvers”.

The three men are expected to be arraigned before the Accra High Court Tuesday, March 23.

Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has admitted inviting the three but discredited BNI and Daily Graphic reports circulating in the public that the men were invited to foment insecurity in the country.

Meanwhile, the BNI has invited the owner of El Capitano Hotel at Agona Duakwa and Delta Force Security, Captain Anthony Acquah for questioning.

Sources have disclosed to JOYNEWS that Captain Acquah was questioned about his involvement in the processes leading to the invitation to the three men in the country and has been requested to assist BNI officials in the investigation.

JOYNEWS Central regional correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko has disclosed after visiting El Capitano Hotel that the three men were reported to have been in the Hotel for over two weeks where they had been training the 15 recruits.

The news of the three ex-South African police officers has raised security concerns across the country prompting the Police hierarchy including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP John Kudalor, to be locked in a meeting to decide whether there is the need for some security to be arranged for political parties.

Some political parties including the People's National Convention (PNC), and the Progressive People's Party (PPP) have condemned leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for inviting the three men.
