The Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah, says the club made a bad decision by relieving Seydou Zerbo of his duties as head coach of the club.
Following the resignation of Prosper Narteh Ogum after the Porcupine Warrior's Ghana Premier League winning season, the hierarchy of the club brought in the Burkinabe to fill in his spot and guide Kotoko to a title defence.
Before being fired, the Zerbo amassed 34 points with Kotoko, winning nine league matches, drawing seven, and losing six.
According to Nana Yaw Amponsah, the club was convinced of their path under the 59-year-old but feared a repetition of what happened at Hearts of Oak when the fans attacked former coach Slavko Matic at the club's training grounds.
"I feel letting our coach [Seydou Zerbo] go wasn't the best of decisions. We didn't want to take that decision [to sack] him but sometimes you need to listen to the crowd and supporters," he told Joy Sports.
"We didn't want a certain incident that had happened at our rival club, Hearts of Oak to repeat at Kotoko because it has happened at Kotoko before. We needed to avoid a whole lot."
Following the sacking of Zerbo, Kotoko appointed Abdulai Gazale as caretaker of the team and has seen some struggles since being at the helm of affairs which has led to the fans' criticism of the club.
