The Construction, Building and Material Workers Union (CBMU), on Friday appealed to Government to release funds to continue work on the Nswam-Apedua and Madina-Pantan roads in order to avoid retrenchment of workers. The Union, a member of the Ghana Trades Union Congress, told journalists in Accra that the China International Water and Electric Corporation, the contractor, could only continue work after Government had released funds. About 400 workers of the Union are currently working on the two project sites. Mr Daniel Ablorh, Assistant Industrial Relations Officer of the Union, said at a meeting with the Union executives that if in the next few weeks the Corporation did not receive funds, it would be difficult to continue the work and therefore the payment of salaries and wages to workers would cease. The projects comprised 31.7kilometre Nswam-Apedua road being constructed at the cost of GH¢154 million and a 4.6kilometre Madina-Pantan road valued at GH¢39 million.
